Transferrin (TF) is the major iron‑containing protein in plasma. It participates not only in iron transport and metabolism, respiration, cell proliferation and immune system regulation, but also exerts antioxidant and bactericidal functions, thus being widely applied in cell culture.
Transferrin exists in three forms: apotransferrin (iron‑free, unbound to ferric ions), holotransferrin (iron‑saturated, bound to two ferric ions), and partially‑saturated transferrin.
This product is recombinant human transferrin expressed and purified from Pichia pastoris via genetic recombination technology. It contains no animal‑derived components, poses no risk of blood‑borne viral infection, and features high batch‑to‑batch consistency.
As holotransferrin in iron‑saturated state, this product can act as an iron source for cells on its own in addition to iron‑transporting functions, eliminating the need for adding exogenous iron to culture media.
